Peter Gallaudet diaries, 1807-1843.

Diary entries and reflections on life and religion; many entries start with a Bible verse. Gallaudet was private secretary to President George Washington, worked as a commission merchant in New York City, and then worked for the United States Treasury Department. He referred to Hartford, Connecticut, as home several times in his diaries. The diary consists of individual signatures of varying pagination sewn or pinned together. The diary dated 1820-822 was written over the pages of an account book dated 1778-1779 that includes an account of French Rum and may have been kept by Edward Gallaudet.
